At least one member of U2 will be on hand to accept the group's latest honor.

"The Desert Sun" newspaper says Bono has sent confirmation that he'll be attending the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala, taking place Saturday in Palm Springs, California.  Other band members might show up for the ceremony as well.

U2 is being recognized with the Sonny Bono Visionary Award.  Festival Chairman Harold Matzner says U2 was chosen as this year's recipient "for their unparalleled humanitarian work against extreme poverty, disease, and social injustice," which included working with the late Nelson Mandela in the fight against AIDS in Africa.  U2's song "Ordinary Love" is also featured in the new film "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom."

Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Sandra Bullock are slated to be honored at the event as well, along with Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey, and others.  The Awards Gala is taking place in conjunction with the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival, which starts Friday and continues through January 13th.
