The buildup to Nirvana's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame continued Wednesday with an appearance from Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic on "The Tonight Show."  Krist told host Jimmy Fallon that even though this is an exciting week, it's bittersweet because there's someone who should be here celebrating with them.

This past Saturday marked the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death, but Grohl and Novoselic spent most of their "Tonight Show" visit sharing happier stories about their time in Nirvana.  They reminisced about touring in a van despite having a gold record after "Nevermind" exceeded everyone's expectations; about intentionally destroying Grohl's drums so he could get a new set; and about getting a call from "Weird Al" Yankovic about the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" parody while they were sitting in the "Saturday Night Live" dressing room.  They also talked about working with Paul McCartney, and called it "a trip" to have a left-handed guitarist like Kurt leading the band once again.

Grohl and Novoselic will be in Brooklyn tonight for the Rock Hall induction ceremony.  R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe will welcome them into the club, but the details surrounding a Nirvana performance remain unclear.  It's been rumored that Joan Jett might lead the tribute, but organizers haven't made anything official.

Meanwhile, Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Questlove, and Bruce Springsteen will also be part of the star-studded event honoring the Class of 2014.

In addition to Nirvana, this year's list of inductees also includes Peter Gabriel, Kiss, Cat Stevens, Linda Ronstadt, Daryl Hall and John Oates, and the E Street Band.

The ceremony is taking place tonight at the Barclays Center, with a highlights special set to air May 31st on HBO.
